“The Irregular” Newsletter Collection (MS25)

Abstract: “The Irregular” was a self-published newsletter created by Howard Browning (1908-1989) of Biddeford Pool. The newsletter was distributed to people of Mr. Browning’s choosing, and ran from 1978 to approximately 1988. Mr. Browning used the newsletter as a vehicle to express his opinions about local, state, and national happenings.

Scope-Contents: Collection is comprised of one box (.2 lin. ft.) containing: correspondence regarding the newsletter and issues discussed in it; newspaper clipping of an in-depth article about Mr. Browning which appeared in the Journal Tribune (Biddeford, Me.) shortly before his death; and newsletter issues from No.1 (1978) – Vol.9/10 No.1 (1988).

    Howard was a wonderful individidual, so very smart and intuitive. He had wonderful stories, and he loved being involved in city affairs, when I was a young city councilor. He was not only an icon in Biddeford Pool, but I viewed him as an icon and an asset in Biddeford.

If you had any other memories or anecdotes you wouldn’t mind sharing about Mr. Browning, perhaps in letter form, I think it would be a wonderful addition to the collection file. Just let me know!
